How to Vote in India

🧾 Step 1: Ensure You’re Registered to Vote

Before you can vote, you need to check if your name is on the electoral roll.

✅ Visit the official website: https://www.nvsp.in
✅ Click on “Search in Electoral Roll”
✅ Enter your name, age, state, and other required details
✅ If you’re not registered, click on “Register as a New Voter” and fill Form 6

On election day, bring one of the following approved ID proofs:

  • Voter ID (EPIC card)
  • Aadhaar card
  • Passport
  • Driving license
  • PAN card
  • MNREGA job card

You do not need to bring your Voter ID if your name is on the electoral list and you have another valid ID.

  2. Carry your valid ID
  3. Verify your name in the voters’ list
  4. Stand in queue as per instructions

Inside the booth:

  • You’ll sign or give thumbprint
  • You’ll receive a voting slip/token

  3. The Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) will show your selection briefly
  4. That’s it—you’ve voted!

  • Mobile phones are not allowed inside the voting area
  • Voting is confidential
  • Booth officials are trained to help elderly, disabled, and first-time voters
